Kaplan’s LSAT course is perfect for any student who’s looking for a mix of online practice materials and live classes. It’s also great for visual learners who learn best through watching videos. Plus, with their over 8,000 practice questions, the course is a good choice for anyone who learns best through doing practice questions.

What we love

We love that Kaplan has instructor-led video lessons. We also like that they have supplemental videos on their LSAT Channel, and we like that they have tutoring and live classes. Plus, we like that they provide a practice library and hardcopy prep books.

Keep in mind

Kaplan’s course has a shorter access period than many of their competitors. They also don’t have a mobile app, and it’s difficult to do their quizzes on a smartphone. Their class sizes are also larger than some of their competitors.

Plans and pricing

Value for money: 9/10

Kaplan has plans at a wide variety of price points. If you want to do a self-guided course, try the DIY Course. This plan costs $799 and it gives you four months of access. It includes Kaplan’s complete LSAT video course, 180+ hours of live and on-demand lessons on the LSAT Channel, over 300 customizable quizzes, and a set of textbooks. Access to LSAC’s LSAT Prep Plus is also included in the price.

If you’d like to also do tutoring, check out the LSAT DIY Course Plus. This course costs $1,099. It includes everything in the DIY Course, and you’ll get three hours of one-on-one tutoring.

If you’re interested in taking live classes, try the Online Course or Online Course Plus. The Online Course costs $1,299. The Online Course Plus costs $1,599. Both courses offer 32 hours of classroom instruction. You’ll also get access to Kaplan’s full online course, access to LSAC’s LSAT Prep Plus, and a set of textbooks. Online Course Plus also includes three hours of one-on-one tutoring.

Kaplan also has a plan with more tutoring hours. This plan is called the Tutoring + Online course and it has 10 hour, 20 hour, 30 hour, and 40 hour packages. The price ranges from $2,399 to $4,999 depending on how many hours of tutoring you choose. You’ll also get full access to Kaplan’s online course and LSAT Prep Plus access.

If you’re looking for an intensive course, Kaplan has an LSAT Bootcamp. This course costs $3,999. The bootcamp is a month long, and you’ll attend online classes every weekday for that month. In total, you’ll get 140 hours of live classroom instruction. Plus, you’ll get eight hours of one-on-one tutoring, and you’ll be able to use Kaplan’s online course. You’ll also get a set of textbooks and access to LSAT Prep Plus.

While Kaplan’s live class courses are on the expensive side, the price is similar to that of other companies’ courses with live classes. For example, Princeton Review and Manhattan Prep have similarly priced courses. We also like that Kaplan has courses at so many different price points. This makes their course accessible for many different students. With all the practice questions and video lessons you get, this course is good value for money.

Ease of use

Ease of use: 8/10

Kaplan’s online dashboard is streamlined and simple to navigate. When you log in, you’ll see tabs on the left-hand corner of the screen. The tabs will take you to lessons and practice tests. When you click onto the lessons screen, you’ll see the title and length of each LSAT video. Everything is clearly labeled.

The one negative to the online dashboard is every time you click on a new lesson or quiz, it opens in a new tab. While this is a small issue, it can get confusing if you’re watching a lot of lessons or doing a few different quizzes.

Kaplan doesn’t have an LSAT mobile app. The online course is mobile-responsive, though. You can easily watch videos on your phone. You can also do quizzes on your phone, but be aware that the text is tiny and the answers are hard to click.

Kaplan also provides hardcopy books for both their online and live courses. These books include strategies and more practice questions. They’re the perfect supplement to the online course.

What students think

Popularity: 8/10

In general, students were happy with Kaplan’s LSAT prep course. Many students gave Kaplan positive reviews. Some students singled out their instructors for praise in their review. Other students said their LSAT score increased after doing Kaplan’s course.

Some students had negative reviews about the online interface. One student said they ran into errors while doing the course. Another student wished the live class provided deeper insight into the material. Overall, though, most students had good things to say about Kaplan’s course.

Our experience

We found Kaplan’s course easy to use and navigate. We loved how detailed the videos were, and we liked that we could speed them up and that captions were provided. We also liked how many practice questions Kaplan had, and we liked that they were all from past LSATs.

It was a bit frustrating that the online dashboard didn’t work perfectly on a smartphone. Having each lesson open in a new tab was also a bit unwieldy. But other than those small things, everything with Kaplan was simple to use.

Why take the Kaplan LSAT prep course

Detailed and Engaging Online Course Curriculum

Kaplan’s online course is broken into six core sessions. These sessions follow the three LSAT sections, and the core sessions are broken into units based on concepts and problem types.

Each unit features video lessons that discuss the concept at hand. If you’re a visual learner, these video lessons will be perfect for you. The videos are taught by Kaplan’s LSAT experts. They range in length from a few minutes to over an hour. You can speed up the videos, and they all have closed-captioning. You can also jump ahead to a different video in each unit.

In the video, the Kaplan instructor typically stands in front of a digital whiteboard. Notes appear on the screen as the instructor talks you through the lesson at hand. The instructor will give you helpful test-taking strategies, and they’ll do a few practice questions with you.

After finishing a video, you’ll usually do a practice set to reinforce what you learned. You can then read through detailed explanations of how to solve the problems.

In total, Kaplan has over 150 hours of video lessons. These videos will leave you feeling confident and ready for test day.

Practice Library

One of the things that sets Kaplan apart from the competition is their Practice Library. Here, you can do timed drills on a variety of subjects. You’ll also find assessments that are designed to help you master advanced problem types and subjects. Plus, they have extra LSAT practice exams.

These assessments and drills all feature official LSAT practice questions from past exams. This ensures that you’re only working on material that’s relevant. In addition, Kaplan includes detailed explanations for how to solve almost all their practice problems.

Between the practice library and course sessions, Kaplan has over 8,000 practice questions. These questions ensure that you’re prepared for the LSAT.

LSAC’s LSAT Prep Plus tool

Like many other LSAT prep courses, Kaplan includes a subscription to LSAC’s LSAT Prep Plus in the price of their course. Here, you’ll be able to access every official past LSAT test. This includes over 80 exams.

Kaplan provides some useful tools to go along with the LSAT Prep Plus subscription. This includes their “Smart Reports.” After completing a practice test, Kaplan sends you a report with detailed, targeted feedback. Plus, Kaplan provides personalized recommendations on where you need more work. The score report and personalized recommendations are great for helping you focus your studying.

Hardcopy Textbooks

Kaplan provides textbooks for both their self-guided and instructor-led courses. After you purchase the course, Kaplan will send you a set of prep books. These books align well with the course lessons. They work as a supplement to the course, and they provide useful test-taking strategies. They also have more practice questions and detailed explanations. If you like highlighting material and working through textbooks, these prep books are great for you.

Score Increase Guarantee

Kaplan offers a generous score increase guarantee with their course. If your LSAT score doesn’t go up after taking the course, you can get a full refund. To use this guarantee, you’ll have to send Kaplan a score report if you took the LSAT before doing the course. If you haven’t taken the LSAT, you can also take a Kaplan diagnostic test. Then, you can use that as your baseline score.

If your LSAT score doesn’t go up after you complete the course, send them your new score report within 60 days of taking the test. Then, you’ll get a full refund. Or, you can retake the LSAT course for free.

Live Classes

Kaplan has both live in-person and online LSAT classes. The classes are taught by LSAT experts and will leave you feeling prepared for test day. You’ll find a schedule of all the available courses on Kaplan’s website. Some courses meet just once or twice a week. Others meet up to four times a week. During the class, you can ask your instructor any question you have. They’ll also give you helpful homework. Kaplan’s live classes are top-notch. They’re perfect for students who like learning with an instructor.

Free Trial and Free Content

If you’re on the fence about getting Kaplan, try some of their free content. They have a 15-day free trial. During the trial, you can take one free practice test. Afterward, Kaplan will send you a detailed breakdown of your score. You can also watch two video lessons—one on logic games and one on strict sequencing games. After watching the video, you can try out a 10-question quiz on strict sequencing games.

Kaplan also frequently hosts free two-hour online trial classes. These classes give you a good sense of what Kaplan’s instructor-led courses are like. Plus, they have a blog with tips and tricks for studying for the LSAT. They also have a few free quizzes and a 30-day study plan on their website.

LSAT Channel

One of the things that sets Kaplan apart from other test prep companies is their LSAT Channel. This channel features live videos from Kaplan’s highly-qualified instructors. These videos tackle topics like logic games, formal logic, and law school applications. New videos are released almost daily. You can chat with the instructor as you watch a live video.

If you miss a live session, you can always watch it later. You can also filter the recorded videos. You can choose what type of lesson you want to watch and filter by instructor. In total, there are over 180 hours of live and on-demand content on the LSAT Channel.

Keep in mind

Shorter Access Period

Kaplan offers a four-month access period for their course. This is shorter than many other prep courses. For instance, Magoosh provides 12 months of access and Manhattan Prep gives six months. While four months is a good amount of time for studying, it falls short of what other test prep companies offer.

No Mobile App

Kaplan doesn’t have a mobile app for their LSAT course. You can do their online course on your phone, and it is mobile-responsive. The quiz text is tiny on a phone, though. This makes it tricky to do the quizzes.

Limited Free Trial

Kaplan doesn’t have a ton of material in their free trial. They only have two videos and one PDF practice quiz. You won’t be able to access their practice library or do any video lessons with practice sets.

Larger Class Sizes

Kaplan allows up to 30 students in each of their classes. These classes are much larger than some other courses’ classes, such as Manhattan Prep. Kaplan does include one-on-one tutoring with all their instructor-led courses, so you will get some personalized attention.

The final grade

Overall: 4.5/5

Kaplan’s LSAT course has hundreds of hours of video content and a library full of practice questions. Their live classes are taught by LSAT experts, and they have a set of helpful prep books. There are a few negatives to Kaplan’s course, including larger class sizes and a shorter access period. Overall, though, Kaplan goes above and beyond to get their students ready to take the LSAT.
