Magoosh’s LSAT prep course is completely online, and it’s flexible and budget-friendly. The course is self-paced and features helpful practice questions and video lessons. There are some downsides to the course, including the lack of structure and in-person classes. Overall, though, Magoosh provides good value for money.

Recommended for...

Magoosh offers a self-paced online course that’s great for busy students who are looking for flexibility. Their customizable practice sections are perfect for those who learn best through doing practice questions. Their video explanations also make this course a good choice for visual learners.

What we love

We love Magoosh’s personalized dashboard and their customizable practice sections. We also love how many practice questions they have. The fact that these questions all come from the real LSAT is a bonus. We also like the mobile app and video lessons. Plus, we like that they have a guaranteed five-point score guarantee and seven-day free trial.

Keep in mind

One of Magoosh’s main negatives is the lack of structure in their course. The self-guided nature of the course is also difficult for some students. Plus, Magoosh doesn’t provide any physical textbooks or workbooks. They also have fewer practice questions than other LSAT courses.

Plans and pricing

Value for money: 10/10

Magoosh has two plans: a one-month premium plan and a 12-month premium plan. The one-month plan costs $279, and the 12-month plan costs $299.

Both plans have over 7,000 official LSAT questions, over 90 video strategy lessons, and over 200 additional logic games explanations. They also both have timed tests on an official LSAT interface and a five-point score increase guarantee. LSAC Prep Plus access is also included in the price of the course. This gives you access to over 60 past LSAT tests.

The only difference between the two plans is the length of time you’re able to access the course. Because there’s only a $20 difference in the plans, unless you really feel you only need a month, the 12-month plan is typically the best choice.

Magoosh accepts payments through Visa, American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and PayPal. All their payments are processed securely through PayPal. They don’t store anyone’s credit card information.

If you’re unsure about Magoosh, they have a seven-day free trial. Or, if you begin the course and realize it’s not working for you, they also have a seven-day, money-back guarantee.

Magoosh’s prices are much lower than most other LSAT courses. They also provide tons of online materials and practice questions. This makes the course a good value overall.

Ease of use

Ease of use: 9/10

Magoosh is easy to use and navigate. Their dashboard is clean and simple. Everything is right in front of you when you login. After only a few minutes of clicking around, you’ll be able to navigate the dashboard.

Magoosh’s free mobile apps also work well. The only negative is you have to download two apps to get all the study materials: one for flashcards and one for video lessons. Both apps include helpful study aids. The flashcard app is particularly useful for studying on-the-go. While the app isn’t a substitute for the desktop course, it’s a great supplement.

One of the downsides of the course is there are no physical study materials, such as workbooks, textbooks, or flashcards. If you’re okay with only studying online, you’ll find Magoosh’s LSAT course easy to use.

What students think

Popularity: 9/10

Students were mostly happy with the Magoosh LSAT prep course. Many students liked how budget-friendly it is. Other students said their scores increased after doing Magoosh’s course. Students also liked how flexible the course is.

There were some negative reviews about the fact that Magoosh’s course isn’t as comprehensive as other LSAT courses. Other students wished there were live classes available.

Overall, there were more positive reviews than negative. Many students said Magoosh helped them feel ready for test day.

Our experience

We found that Magoosh’s LSAT course does what it claims to do. Their video lessons thoroughly explain a wide variety of LSAT concepts. The personalized dashboard has tons of useful data that helps you decide where to focus your studying. We also felt reassured knowing that the practice questions were from LSAC themselves.

It does take a little while to get used to the lack of guidance. Still, if you create a schedule for yourself and use the features on your dashboard, Magoosh’s courses will leave you feeling prepared for test day.

Why take the Magoosh LSAT prep course

Personalized Dashboard

One of our favorite features is Magoosh’s personalized dashboard. The interface is uncluttered and simple to use. When you login to the course, you’ll be taken straight to your dashboard. On the left-hand side of the page, you’ll see a list of suggested lessons. At the top of the page are links to all of Magoosh’s lessons, video explanations, and a place to review the questions you’ve completed so far. In the center of the page, you’ll see links that will take you to the practice sections.

As you do practice questions, your dashboard will show your progress through pie charts. There are three pie charts: one for logic games, one for logical reasoning, and one for reading comprehension. The pie charts will show you the percentage of questions you got correct. They’ll also show your pace compared to other students’ paces. This data helps you decide where to focus your studies as you move forward.

Underneath the pie charts, there’s a ‘notes’ section. Here, you can jot down anything you’d like to remember about the lessons and practice questions you’ve done.

Custom and Timed Practice Sections

Magoosh has practice sessions that you can access straight from your dashboard. You can choose between ‘custom practice’ and ‘timed practice sections.’

If you choose to do timed practice, you’ll get 35 minutes to complete an official PrepTest section. Afterward, you can review your answers. Many of the questions also have video explanations to help you understand how to solve the problems.

If you’d like to choose which questions to include, try the custom practice session. You can choose which section of the test you’d like to be quizzed on. You can also pick specific subjects in that section. For example, if you pick ‘Logic Games,’ you can choose between grouping games, matching games, sequencing games, or unusual logic games.

You can also choose to do either only questions you answered before or only unanswered questions. Plus, you can decide if you’d like to be timed or not.

Key Logic Games

Another helpful resource that Magoosh offers is their Key Logic Games page. Here, you’ll find lists of logic games you should master before taking the LSAT. This includes sequencing, fixed grouping, floating grouping, matching, hybrid sequencing, and unusual games.

There are about 10-14 sets of games to try for each game type. Magoosh also labels each set of games as beginner, intermediate, advanced, or expert. This allows you to easily practice games at different skill levels.

Over 7,000 LSAC Practice Questions

Magoosh has over 7,000 practice questions. All of these questions are licensed from LSAC. This means that the questions appeared on the LSAT before. When you’re doing practice questions, you can rest assured knowing that the questions match what you’ll find on the real LSAT.

Access to Past LSAT Practice Tests

Your Magoosh subscription includes access to Official LSAC Prep Plus. Here, you’ll be able to practice with all available past LSAT tests. This includes over 60 tests. Plus, Magoosh gives you the option to take eight of these tests as timed practice tests. You can then save the results to your account.

Review Section

On your dashboard, you’ll see a review section. Here, you can look through all the practice questions you answered. You can also filter the questions to give you a sense of what you’re doing well on and what you still need more practice at.

Video Lessons and Explanations

Magoosh has helpful video lessons about many of the concepts you’ll see on the LSAT. These videos feature an instructor talking in a voiceover as notes appear on the screen. The production value is simple, but the videos are chock-full of useful information.

Magoosh also offers video explanations with many of their practice questions. These videos provide an in-depth look at how to solve questions. The explanation videos feature an instructor talking in a voiceover as they work through the problem on the screen.

Underneath each video is a full transcript of what the instructor is saying. This makes it simple to double-check anything you missed. You can also write down notes about the video.

Supplemental Material and Mobile App

Magoosh has free supplemental material available on their website. This includes a blog with LSAT tips and tricks. They also provide helpful study schedules. These range from two-week study plans to six-month plans. No matter how much time you have, these schedules are sure to help you plan out your time.

There’s also a good amount of supplemental material on Magoosh’s mobile apps. They have over 50 videos to watch on their LSAT prep app. On their flashcard app, they have over 190 flashcards that help you learn logic concepts. These apps are free, so they’re a good way to test Magoosh out before you buy the LSAT course.

Guaranteed 5-Point Score Increase

One of Magoosh’s unique selling points is their guaranteed five-point score increase. This means that if your LSAT score doesn’t increase by at least five points after doing Magoosh’s course, you can get a refund.

To use this feature, you’ll need to have taken the LSAT at least once before. When you sign up for Magoosh, email your “before” score report to help@magoosh.com. Then, if you do the LSAT and your score doesn’t increase, email Magoosh your “after” score report. You’ll get a full refund. This score increase guarantee proves that Magoosh is confident in their product.

Seven-Day Free Trial

If you’re unsure if Magoosh is right for you, try their seven-day free trial. During the trial, you’ll get access to one full practice test. You’ll also get access to five logic game video lessons, five logic reasoning lessons, and three reading comprehension lessons. In addition, you can test out some practice questions and watch a few video explanations.

Seven-Day Money-Back Guarantee

Magoosh also offers a seven-day money-back guarantee. If you purchase the course, try it for a few days, and realize it’s not right for you, you can cancel. You’ll get a full refund with no questions asked.

24/7 Email Response

If you have questions while you’re going through the LSAT course, make use of Magoosh’s 24/7 email response. Email Magoosh with your question, and an LSAT expert will usually get back to you in a few hours.

Keep in mind

No Physical Books or Study Materials

One of the ways Magoosh keeps their costs low is by only using online study materials. They don’t provide any textbooks, workbooks, or flashcards. If you’re someone who learns best by using flashcards or writing in a workbook, this could be difficult for you.

Fewer Practice Problems

Magoosh also has fewer practice questions than some of their competitors. While Princeton Review offers 8,500 practice questions and Blueprint has 8,000, Magoosh has 7,000 questions.

Not Much Structure in Course

One of the biggest negatives in Magoosh’s course is that there isn’t much structure. They have a library of videos, and you can pick and choose which one you want to watch. You’ll also get to choose when to do practice questions or practice tests.

For students who learn best with guidance, this self-directed way of learning can be difficult. Still, Magoosh does have some tools to help you plan your studying, including studying schedules.

No In-Person Classes or One-on-One Tutoring

Magoosh doesn’t have any in-person classes or tutoring services. Everything in their course is self-directed and done on your own schedule. Some students find this tricky. This is especially true for students who like a more directed approach to their learning.

Even though Magoosh doesn’t have in-person classes, they do provide support for their students. If you have questions as you go through the course, use their 24/7 email response.

The final grade

Overall: 4.5/5

Magoosh’s LSAT course is a great choice for anyone that’s looking for a budget-friendly course that’s still high-quality. From their personalized dashboard to their practice questions, Magoosh has tons to offer test-takers. If you’re looking for a self-guided course that won’t break the break, try Magoosh.
